Use as Wallpaper cover reveal

I’m very pleased to present the cover to USE AS WALLPAPER. This is my first contemporary story and my first published short story. It’s a fun rom-com set in the beautiful country of Georgia.

Cover for a story named Use as Wallpaper by Glenn Quigley. Two deck chairs and two glasses of wine by a lake surrounded by trees.

Here is the blurb:

Stuart is a reporter for a seldom-watched history channel, forty-one years old, and recently single. His latest assignment has taken him to the beautiful country of Georgia to film a traditional polyphonic choir—one of the last of its kind. The choir is run by Otar, a gruff man of strong opinions who is used to getting his own way.

When it’s suggested that Stuart get involved with the choir’s latest performance, he will have to quickly learn how to sing in Georgian, perform a traditional dance, and avoid butting heads with Otar. He probably shouldn’t drink too much wine the night before the show, either.

As Otar struggles to keep the past alive, can he help Stuart to leave his behind?

USE AS WALLPAPER will be released on 23rd August by Ninestar Press and will be available on their website, Amazon, and most major e-book retailers. I’ll update this post as soon as the pre-order and buy links are available!

This story is totally stand-alone and unconnected to my novels. If you’ve been thinking about trying out my writing, here’s an easy and affordable way to do so. I’m very excited for people to read this story!

Power Surge by Sara Codair

Who is the star of your book?
Erin Evanstar (they/them/their) loves Star Wars and thinks they’re a monster. Life would be so much easier if they didn’t get every possible negative side effect when they took antidepressants and stimulants.

What is your story about?
Coping with mental illness, being lied to, learning to forgive, fighting demons, and saving the world.

When is it set?
Present day.

Where is it set?
In and around Portland, Maine. Some of the streets and landmarks are more or less based off of real places, like Portland Head Light; others, like St. Patrick’s, are completely made up.

Why this story?
This is the story I needed to read when I was teenager. These are characters that lived in my head for years before I started writing and refused to leave when I thought I’d given up on their story.

Blurb:

Erin has just realized that for the entirety of their life, their family has lied to them. Their Sight has been masked for years, so Erin thought the Pixies and Mermaids were hallucinations. Not only are the supernatural creatures they see daily real, but their grandmother is an Elf, meaning Erin isn’t fully human. On top of that, the dreams Erin thought were nightmares are actually prophecies.

While dealing with the anger they have over all of the lies, they are getting used to their new boyfriend, their boyfriend’s bullying ex, and the fact that they come from a family of Demon Hunters. As Erin struggles through everything weighing on them, they uncover a Demon plot to take over the world.

Erin just wants some time to work through it all on their own terms, but that’s going to have to wait until after they help save the world.

A Mages Power by Casey Wolfe

Who is the star of your book?
A Mage’s Power stars master mage, Rowan, and his love interest, Shaw, who works for the Inquisition.

What is your story about?
The magical races (known as magicae) are disappearing, and many suspect the Inquisition are behind it.  Shaw is trying to figure out what’s going on.  Rowan’s just trying to pass his next masters exam while staying out of the path of a dark mage.  And the both of them are wondering if any sort of relationship between them could truly work.

When is it set?
It’s contemporary, set in modern day with all it’s conveniences, however…

Where is it set?
The trilogy is set in the world of Eiocha (named after the Celtic creation myth), though the first book takes place solely in the country of Osterian.

Why this story?
There was just something about these characters (all of them in the trilogy, not just Ro and Shaw) and the world that spoke to me.  I’ve enjoyed spending time with them so much, getting to tell their stories, and make this whole, broad world come to life.  It’s challenging, no doubt, but years into this project I’m still fascinated by it all.

Blurb:
Built on the bones of an ancient city, modern-day Everstrand is where master mage, Rowan, has set up his enchantment shop. When not hanging out with his werewolf best friend, Caleb, or studying, he dabbles in herbology and the controversial practice of blood magic. A prodigy who has already earned two masters, Rowan’s bound and determined to reach the distinction of grandmaster, a mage who obtains a masters in all five Schools of Magic.

Shaw works for the Inquisition, the organization charged with policing the magical races collectively known as magicae. Recently, it has come under scrutiny as magicae begin to disappear and reports of violence increase. With secrets of his own on the line, Shaw is willing to risk everything to find out just what is going on behind all the locked doors.

When Rowan and Shaw are entangled in each other’s worlds, it becomes evident that their hearts are as much at risk as their lives. They must find the truth and stop a conspiracy before it’s too late.

PARADISE LODGE

Paradise Lodge by Riina YT

Azariah Bell is a nervous wreck. He isn’t prepared to spend the final week of the year with his best friend, Ky O’Sullivan, lead vocalist for their pop rock band, Moving Insignia—especially after the fight he caused before they parted ways two weeks ago.

Afraid of not being taken seriously by Ky, Azariah was concerned about what confessing his feelings would do to their friendship, or the band. He tried to keep his emotions in check, but instead, he exploded in anger over some petty issue, and now he’s potentially lost Ky forever.

Ky is looking forward to the band’s annual writing retreat for a week of songwriting and recording at a secluded mountain resort. Spending Christmas with his family gave Ky time to reflect on how he’d handled Azariah’s epic meltdown. It wasn’t good, and Ky is determined to uncover the true nature of Azariah’s unusual behavior. They didn’t keep secrets from each other, or so he believed.

Expecting to see the rest of the band when they arrive by helicopter, Ky and Azariah are shocked to learn they are alone at a deserted lodge. When they discover they’ve been set up by their bandmates so they can “sort it out,” their choices are few. But it’s critical for them to resolve their problems if they have any hope of enjoying the new year together, let alone make that new album happen.

Welcome to the first in what I hope is a regular feature in which Ninestar Press authors answer five questions about their work.
We start with VALENTINE WHEELER!

Checked Baggage by Valentine Wheeler

Who is the star of your book?
CHECKED BAGGAGE stars Faris, a guy on his way back from some family stuff who just wants to get home and lock himself in his apartment away from everyone! Luckily for him, his plans are foiled.

What is your story about?
It’s about family, and connection, and what it means to be from somewhere. It’s also about what happens when the hotel room has only one bed!

When is it set?
It’s contemporary, the week before Thanksgiving!

Where is it set?
Most of the story happens in the Beirut airport and a nearby hotel, with a special appearance by Boston.

Why this story?
My family is from the same area that my characters’ are, and it’s a place I’ve always felt a bit of a frayed connection to. Themes of family and what places mean have always been important to me, and I wanted to explore that!

BLURB:

When Faris has to take a trip back to his family’s home in Lebanon to handle his grandmother’s estate, he finds himself caught between the world he left and the world he’s built himself in the United States. After an exhausting stay with his boisterous extended family, all he wants is a quiet trip home and a chance to rest before Thanksgiving with his parents in Massachusetts. But the weather has different plans for him.

Charlie’s father left when he was a toddler, and he’s never gotten a chance to connect with his paternal roots. A trip to the village his grandparents left in the 1930s gave him the facts but left him yearning for a past he still didn’t understand.

When both men are stuck in Beirut for the night unexpectedly, can they make the connection they’re both missing and make it home in time for Thanksgiving?
